Japanese Words for Eating at a Japanese Restaurant
Here are some Japanese words that are useful when eating at a Japanese
restaurant. If you learn some of these words, you would impress even
an native Japanese speakers!
Itadakimasu - The word to say before eating. (Direct translation: "I
receive with respect.")
ohashi - chopsticks
ochyo-shi - sake in a bottle, usually served warm
or
atsu-kan - a hot bottle of sake
reisyu - cold sake, specialty sake made to be served cold
ochoko - a little sake cup
nama-biru - draft beer on tap
agari - green tea (only used at a Sushi restaurant)
gari - pickled ginger (usually served with Sushi)
wasabi - green Japanese horseradish (very spicy!)
osyo-yu - soy sauce
oshinko - pickles
kappa - cucumber (usually for rolled sushi only)
gyoku - Japanese style slightly sweet egg omelet
geta - wooden sushi serving dish (named after a wooden footwear)
shyari - sushi rice
oishi - delicious
gochisousama - at the end of the meal. ("Thank you for the meal.")
oaiso - a check
